When you are first setting up and configuring your niche website, you need to make sure that your permalinks are set up properly. This ensures that you can place keywords into the URLs (web addresses) of your posts and pages. WordPress, by default, uses a silly number system for its URLs so you end up getting default URLs that look like this:

This is NOT what you want. Search engines like Google will award you with better rankings if you’re able to place keywords in your URLs so that they look like this:

  1. Login to your WordPress admin.
  2. Go to ‘Settings’.
  3. Go to ‘Permalinks’.
  4. Select ‘Custom Structure’.
  5. Paste /%postname%/ into the box next to custom structure.
  6. Click ‘Save Changes’.
